At First Christian Church, music is a joyful part of our worship and our life together as a congregation. Our music programs offer opportunities for education, spiritual growth, fellowship, participation in ministry, and expression of gifts and talents. From traditional anthems and classic masterpieces to spirituals and gospel, we strive to provide music that is at times inspiring, profound, deeply moving, vigorous, quietly meditative, or jubilant.
Chancel Choir
Led by Lunette Arledge, our adult Chancel Choir sings each Sunday with a break in August. They present special music during Advent and at Easter, and in June perform a program including spirituals, Broadway songs, and pop tunes. An annual retreat in September provides a space for honing musical skills, deepening faith, and enriching relationships. The Chancel Choir rehearses on Thursdays at 7:30.
Youth Ensemble
For our teenagers, grades 7-12, the Youth Ensemble meets after church on the 2nd and 4th Sundays and sings on occasional Sundays and for special services. In addition to the music experience, these young people form a strong bond with each other. Lunette Arledge directs this group as well.
Carol Choir
Our Carol Choir for grades 2-6, directed by Bill Rife, meets during the second half of our Sunday morning worship service. This group is a wonderful training ground for young musicians and an enrichment opportunity for all children.
Casavant Pipe Organ
Refurbished in 2013, the organ at First Christian is a splendid Casavant that adds beauty, dignity, and grandeur to our worship. Organist Yeri Jang provides a wide range of repertoire that utilizes the full capabilities of the instrument. Her preludes, offertories and postludes, improvised communion meditations, and inspired hymn leadership contribute a depth of inspiration and spirituality.
